Your chapters are saved first, as your own text, before any AI looks at them. What the AI finds arrives afterwards as unconfirmed proposals, so nothing reaches People, Places, Plot or the Chapter plan until you approve it. That is what makes it safe to finish your novel with AI: nothing replaces your pages without your say-so.
Chapter detection tries several strategies and takes the most plausible one: heading styles, 'Chapter N' lines, large type or page breaks. Parts and chapters are told apart, a table of contents is recognised and dropped without losing text, and text before chapter 1 is kept rather than dropped. A book with no headings gets a suggested split, flagged for you to check.
Choosing Keep writing it opens the chapter you were last in, with the AI ready to Finish chapter, write a Next scene of about 1,000 words or add a few paragraphs of 200 to 300. Each action shows its price first, writes with the people, places and earlier chapters that matter, and lands as text you can Undo or Keep.
Because the analysis read every chapter into story memory, the first scene the AI writes already knows who is where and what has been promised. On the Free plan, AI-written chapter text is limited to chapters 1 to 3; a paid plan or any purchased credits lift that limit. Writing by hand stays open throughout.
Polish the prose points you to the Revision passes for Prose, Dialogue and Copy Edit, and Revise the story opens the whole-book consistency check. Restructure chapters offers Suggest a new chapter order, which reads short recaps from story memory and proposes moves, splits at a quoted sentence, merges and renames, each with a reason.
