An AI young adult novel writer that keeps your narrator's voice

A young adult narrator can lose their voice in a single paragraph that sounds like a grown-up wrote it. NovelGPT is an AI young adult novel writer that carries your point of view, tense, readers and voice into every suggestion, from a short middle grade story to a full YA novel.

How it works

  1. Start with the character and the feeling

Describe your book in a sentence or start from the Coming of age Quick start. NovelGPT proposes the genre, voice, length and cast, and you change any line before the book is created.

  2. Say who it is for

In Book options, write who the book is for and choose content warnings for the topics it touches. Pick the length too: a middle grade book is much shorter than a YA or new adult one.

  3. Fix the voice

Choose point of view and tense, then fine-tune the writing voice, including how close the narration sits and how plain the vocabulary is.

  4. Plan the change

Give your narrator a lie they believe and a need they cannot see yet, then plan the key moments of the arc and the chapters that carry it.

  5. Draft and keep the voice

Draft with the AI or by hand. Free checks flag point-of-view and tense slips, and Rewrite this chapter matches the voice of your own other chapters.

Keeping a teen voice consistent across a whole book

First person and past tense are the typical choice for YA, and the voice is the book. Readers forgive a thin plot sooner than a narrator who suddenly sounds forty. That is why an AI young adult novel writer has to start from voice settings, not from plot. Your point of view, tense, readers and voice go into every writing action as a style sheet, so the AI begins each chapter from the same instructions instead of guessing.

The free checks watch for point-of-view and tense slips while you write, at no cost. When a chapter is not quite right, Rewrite this chapter takes a stretch of your own prose from your other chapters as a voice sample, shows the result paragraph by paragraph and saves nothing until you choose Use the rewrite. A Change point of view or tense option covers the day you decide the whole book belongs in the present.

Middle grade, YA and new adult are different books

NovelGPT treats Middle Grade, Young Adult and New Adult as three separate genres. Middle grade typically runs to about 35,000 words in close third person, a YA novel to about 70,000 words in first person, and a new adult novel to about 80,000 in first person. Pick the length when you set the book up, and the chapter count and word targets follow it.

Say who the book is for in plain words, such as readers who love slow-burn mysteries, and add comp-author style references if they help; both go to the AI with every request. Young adult fiction does not avoid hard subjects, so choose the content warnings that apply, from substance abuse to mental health issues. Romance and mature themes stay inside the acceptable-use rules, which never allow sexual content involving anyone under 18.

Coming-of-age arcs that change someone

A coming-of-age story is a person changing, so the change has to be planned. Each person in NovelGPT has what they want, what they wrongly believe, what they really need and where their arc starts, turns and ends. Your key moments and chapter plan then show where the change happens, and the Book map shows whose eyes each chapter is in when there is more than one narrator.

Friends, rivals, family and mentors are all relationships you can describe and see in the relationship web. Side stories, such as a first love or a falling-out, get their own row on the Book map, so the friendships carry as much weight as the main plot.

Questions writers ask

How long is a middle grade book?

Typically about 35,000 words, far shorter than the roughly 70,000 of a young adult novel. NovelGPT uses these figures as the starting point when you set up the book, and you can change the length and chapter count.

Can an AI young adult novel writer keep a teen voice?

It follows the point of view, tense, readers and voice settings you give it, and Rewrite this chapter can match a sample of your own prose. A teen voice is subtle, so read every suggestion and keep only what sounds like your narrator. Nothing changes until you accept it.

What is the difference between YA and new adult here?

They are separate genres with their own typical lengths. New adult follows protagonists in their late teens and twenties, usually in first person, and runs a little longer than YA. Both let you set the readers and content warnings.

Can I write a YA book with AI that includes romance or dark themes?

Yes, within the acceptable-use rules. YA Romance is a subgenre, and content warnings let you record what the book touches. Sexual content involving anyone under 18 is never allowed, and the AI providers add limits of their own, so some requests may be declined.
