Suggest a new chapter order reads the whole book and proposes reshuffles: moves, splits, merges and renames, each one explained. You tick what to apply, and one Undo reverses it.
A book outline generator is only useful if it follows a structure you believe in. NovelGPT can build the Plot step on any of these shapes, or you can choose Custom and lay out your own.
The Chapter plan is a live outline, not a document you export and forget. Reorder by dragging, and chapter numbers follow position; add a chapter and the later ones move down. The same plan is what the AI reads when it drafts a chapter, so changing the plan changes what gets written.
Key moments are the turning points of the main plot, and side stories get their own bars, so a romance thread or a mystery can be tracked beside the main line. When you approve a generated plot, it is merged with what you already wrote; your own records are never replaced without asking.
The Book map lays chapters out as columns under act bands, with rows for key moments, a tension curve, whose eyes each chapter is told through, each side story and who appears where. You can set tension by hand or ask the AI to suggest it, with the price shown first and only the chapters you tick saved.
On a wide screen you can drag a chapter onto another to move it. On a phone the map becomes a reorderable list of chapter cards under act headings, so the same overview fits in your pocket.

If you are unsure, Three-Act Structure is the most forgiving. Save the Cat suits tightly paced plots, the Hero's Journey suits quests and transformation, and Kishotenketsu suits stories driven by a change of perspective. You can switch shapes later in Book settings.

That follows the length you chose: a novella is planned in seven to twelve chapters and a full novel in 25 to 30. You can add, split, merge or remove chapters whenever you like.
Numbers follow position. A notice tells you how many chapters' story memory may now refer to the wrong earlier events, and Recheck reads those chapters again in the background.
