Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated 13 October 2026

NovelGPT is a tool for writing books. This policy sets out what you may not use it for. It is part of our Terms of Use and applies to everything you write, upload or ask the AI to create.

Fiction can go to dark places

Good fiction often deals with violence, crime, abuse, war, addiction, cruelty and sexuality. You may write about these themes, and the AI will help, as long as the work stays within the rules below. Depicting something in a story is not endorsing it.

The AI providers we use have their own safety rules, so the AI may sometimes decline a request even when this policy allows it.

Never allowed

You must not use the Service to create, request, store or share:

  1. Sexual content involving minors. This means any sexual or sexualised content involving anyone under 18, including fictional characters, characters described as adults but presented as children, and "ageplay" framed as fiction. We report this content to the relevant authorities.
  2. Sexual content about real people without their consent, including real people placed in fictional sexual scenarios.
  3. Real-world harm instructions: usable instructions for making weapons capable of mass casualties (biological, chemical, nuclear or radiological), explosives, or malware; or for committing serious crimes, where the "story" is a wrapper for operational instructions rather than fiction.
  4. Encouragement of self-harm or suicide aimed at real people, including instructions or pro-self-harm content outside a genuine fictional context.
  5. Harassment, threats or defamation of real, identifiable people, or content that reveals someone's private information (doxxing).
  6. Hate content that promotes violence against, or dehumanises, people because of protected characteristics such as race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation, outside a genuine fictional or critical context.
  7. Violent extremism: propaganda or recruitment material for terrorist or violent extremist groups.
  8. Infringing content: copying other people's copyrighted work in a way that infringes their rights (for example, reproducing a published novel), or misusing trademarks.
  9. Deception and fraud: content meant to scam, impersonate real people or organisations, manipulate elections, or pass off AI-written work in a way that breaks the law or the rules of a platform, publisher, school or competition.
  10. Spam: mass-produced content made to flood stores, websites or other platforms.

Using the Service fairly

You must not:

Your responsibility for published work

You are responsible for the books you publish, including AI-assisted text. Check facts, make sure you have the rights to what you publish, and follow the rules of the stores and publishers you use. Some publishers and stores require you to disclose that AI was used.

Reporting harmful AI output

If the AI produces something harmful, offensive or illegal:

We review every report. Reports help us adjust our safety settings and tell the AI provider when needed. To report content involving the sexual exploitation of a child, you can also contact your local police or a hotline such as the NCMEC CyberTipline or the Internet Watch Foundation.

Enforcement

If you break this policy, we may:

Where the law requires it, we may report the matter to the authorities. For less serious issues, we will usually warn you first. For serious ones, especially those involving children or real-world harm, we may act straight away.

If you believe we made a mistake, email support@novelgpt.app and we will review the decision.
