For memoir writers

An AI memoir writer that works from your memories, not its own

A memoir is built from your memories, and no AI has lived your life. NovelGPT is an AI memoir writer that works only from what you give it, helps you shape chapters and polish sentences, and leaves every fact and every decision with you.

How it works

  1. Bring what you have already written

Import a Word, text or PDF file and NovelGPT finds your chapters. You check the splits, then set the book up yourself or let the AI read it and propose people, places and a timeline, asked to report only what the text says.

  2. Or start from one sentence

Describe the book, or pick the Memoir Quick start. The setup proposes a point of view, tense and length, which you can change, with first person and past tense the typical choice.

  3. List the people in your life

Give each person an entry with their history and how they speak, and describe the relationships between them. Real people are rendered with their flaws and contradictions, not as saints.

  4. Put real events in order

Add events to the Timeline with the people and places involved. Story time and reading order can differ, and flashback connectors show where a memory sits in the book.

  5. Polish in your own voice

Draft from your notes or write by hand, then try Tighten and polish or the edit passes. Every change is a suggestion, and version history keeps what you had.

Write a memoir with AI without handing over your story

The honest limit of any AI memoir writer is that it was not there. It does not know the kitchen you grew up in or what your father said at the door. It works from the chapters, notes and people you give it, and anything it adds beyond that is a suggestion to check against your own memory, not a fact. NovelGPT is built around that limit: nothing changes your book until you accept it, and the import analysis is asked to report only what is in your text.

Use Notes to keep the evidence behind a chapter. Each research note carries a source type and a reliability badge: verified, likely, uncertain or unverified. A diary entry, a photograph caption and a half-remembered story from an aunt are not the same kind of fact, and the badges let you say so. Notes you link to a chapter go to the AI with that chapter's context.

Structure a life story: themes, timeline and chapter plan

A life is not a plot, so for memoir and other nonfiction the planning step builds around a thematic arc instead of a run of plot twists. The Chapter plan gives every chapter a purpose and its beats, the Themes tab tracks the ideas that keep returning, and the Book map shows the whole book at a glance. Drag chapters to reorder them and the numbers follow.

If your pages arrive in the order you wrote them rather than the order readers should meet them, Suggest a new chapter order proposes moves, merges and splits with a reason for each, and you tick the ones you want. Book parts can recommend a foreword, preface and bibliography for memoir. Biography/Autobiography is its own genre, typically about 85,000 words against about 75,000 for a memoir.

Privacy, ownership and the people in your story

You own every word, including any text the AI writes for you, and your writing is never used to train AI. Without signing in, your books stay on the device you write on. When you use an AI action, the text it needs passes through NovelGPT's server to the AI provider you chose and back, and our server does not keep it.

Memoir involves real people who did not agree to be in your book. You are responsible for what you publish: the acceptable-use rules rule out defamation, harassment and revealing someone's private information, so check facts and permissions before you print. Export to EPUB, DOCX in standard manuscript format, PDF, Markdown or plain text whenever you want a copy for family or an editor.

Subgenres you can choose

Pick a genre and subgenre in your Story setup, and every suggestion follows their conventions. Change the length, point of view and tense any time.

Questions writers ask

Can an AI memoir writer write my life story for me?

It can help you plan, draft from the notes you give it and polish, but it cannot remember your life, and it may invent details if asked to fill gaps. Treat drafts as suggestions, supply the facts yourself and review every change before you accept it.

Can I import old writing, diaries or a draft?

Yes. Word, text and PDF files are supported, up to 400,000 words. A scanned PDF with no text layer cannot be read, so use a version with selectable text.

Is my life story private?

Without an account your books stay on your device. If you sign in, they sync to your other devices through NovelGPT's cloud. AI requests pass through our server to the provider you picked and are not stored by us, and those providers are not allowed to train on them.

What is the difference between memoir, autobiography and biography here?

Memoir and Biography/Autobiography are separate genres. Memoir is typically first person and past tense, Biography/Autobiography close third and past tense, and you can change the point of view and tense for either.
